I was stuck in a rut, scrolling through the same old social media feeds, feeling like life had lost its spark. I wasn’t exactly unhappy but I knew I wasn’t living as boldly as I wanted.
That’s when I stumbled across a quote from Picasso and something clicked. Picasso didn’t just create art, he lived his life with wild passion, broke rules and embraced every challenge with boldness.
His fearless approach to life was exactly what I needed to shake things up. In this post, I’m sharing the lessons Picasso taught me about living boldly, taking risks and breaking out of the mundane.
These lessons helped me add excitement and fearlessness to my own life and I bet they can do the same for you.
1. Embrace Your Uniqueness
Picasso didn’t care about fitting in, he was all about breaking the rules and doing his own thing. His art wasn’t meant to follow trends or please everyone, which made him stand out.
I used to think the key to success was blending in whether it was at work, with friends or just in everyday life.
But the more I tried to be like everyone else, the less I felt like myself. When I finally embraced my quirks (like my terrible puns and out-of-the-box ideas), I started to feel way more confident.
Turns out, being yourself is a lot more fun.
Think about one area where you’ve been holding back to fit in.
Whether it’s your style, your opinions or just how you live your life, try leaning into what makes you unique. You’ll be surprised how much better it feels to stand out rather than blend in.
2: Take Risks Without Fear Of Failure
Picasso was a risk-taker. He pushed boundaries, tried new techniques and wasn’t afraid of failure. For him, taking risks was the only way to create something truly remarkable.
I was the queen of playing it safe, always choosing the comfortable path in both work and life. But the moment I finally took a leap and switched careers everything shifted.
This week, take one small risk whether it’s trying something new, stepping out of your comfort zone, or going after a goal you’ve been hesitating on.
Even if you stumble, every failure is a step toward progress.
3. Constantly Evolve And Reinvent Yourself
Ever noticed how Picasso didn’t stick to one style for too long? One moment he’s in his Blue Period, the next he’s pioneering Cubism.
He was never satisfied with staying in one lane and that’s what made him a legend.
A few years ago, I found myself stuck in the same routine, same job, same mindset. So I decided to shake things up.
I took a class in photography, something I’d never tried before and it completely shifted how I saw creativity.
That small reinvention sparked something in me and soon I was exploring new paths in my career and personal life.
Letting myself evolve opened up so many new opportunities that I would’ve missed if I had stayed in my comfort zone.
Challenge yourself to try something new this week. A new hobby, skill or even a different way of thinking.
Reinvention doesn’t have to be drastic. Even small changes can spark big growth. Staying in one place may feel safe but it’s the evolution that keeps life exciting.
4. View The World Through A Creative Lens
We all get stuck seeing things in one was, like there’s only one solution to a problem, one path to take.
But Picasso?
He saw the world through a whole new lens, bending shapes and perspectives until something magical emerged. His creativity wasn’t just on the canvas, it was how he approached life.
There was a time when I was frustrated from staring at a problem from the same angle and getting nowhere. Then I decided to take a step back and approach it differently.
I treated it like a puzzle, looking at the pieces in new ways asking “what if?” instead of “why not.”
In the end, I found a solution that not only fixed the problem but sparked a whole new approach to how I handle challenges.
Thinking creatively doesn’t just solve problems, it makes life a lot more interesting.
Next time you’re faced with a challenge, ask yourself: “What if I flipped this upside down?” or “What’s a completely unexpected way to solve this?”
Embrace creative thinking and see how it opens up new possibilities you didn’t even realize were there.
5. Be Bold In Your Self-Expression
Picasso wasn’t one to color inside the lines, literally or figuratively. His art was loud, unconventional and didn’t care what anyone thought.
It was raw self-expression and it’s what made him a legend. He didn’t just create, he let the world see him through his art without holding back.
Take a deep breath and think of one thing you’ve been holding back, whether it’s a piece of clothing, an opinion or a creative project.
Now, go for it.
Be loud in your self-expression. Life’s too short to blend in. Wear that bold color, pitch that wild idea or share that thought you’ve been second-guessing.
Be unapologetically you and watch what happens when you own it.
6. Don’t Let Perfectionism Hold You Back
Picasso once said, “The urge to destroy is also a creative urge” and he meant it. He wasn’t obsessed with perfection, he cared more about the process, the experiment and the raw creation.
He embraced the flaws because that’s where the magic happens.
I wouldn’t finish anything for the longest time unless it was “perfect” meaning I barely finished anything.
I had countless unfinished projects sitting around because I was too scared to release them before they were flawless.
There came a time when I forced myself to just let go and share a piece of work I wasn’t totally satisfied with. To my surprise, people loved it, imperfections and all.
It taught me that progress and growth come from finishing and sharing your work, not from obsessing over every little detail.
Think of a project or idea you’ve been holding onto because it’s not perfect.
Now, let it go.
Share it, finish it, release it, whatever it takes.
Embrace the imperfection because that’s where true creativity and growth lie.
7. Live Passionately And With Purpose
Picasso didn’t just dabble in life, he threw himself into it with everything he had. Whether it was his art or his relationships, he lived with intensity and purpose, making sure every moment was filled with meaning.
I used to drift through my days, going through the motions without feeling truly excited or fulfilled. Then I decided to put more energy into my passion for writing.
I carved out time each day, poured my heart into it and suddenly everything started to feel more vibrant.
That passion gave my life a sense of purpose that wasn’t just about work or responsibilities but about doing something that made me feel alive.
Think of one passion or purpose that lights you up. Commit to pursuing it with more energy and enthusiasm in the coming weeks. Life feels so much more meaningful when you’re doing what you love with purpose.
